Imagination can take us far beyond our home world, and in the near future spacecraft may take us to Mars in person. This story, accompanied by richly-colored illustrations, is a fanciful tale of a boy on Earth who looks to the sky and finds out he is not the only one captivated by the idea of venturing to other planets.
Written to help beginning readers build their skills, and at the same time inspire them to dream about exploring our solar system, the story uses a limited vocabulary and basic sentence structure to develop confidence as a reader. Earth and Mars are presented in a way that highlights differences without presenting either planet in a negative way.
Resources in the back of the book help teachers and parents find more factual information about Mars for young readers who show an interest in learning more.
Two Boys Two Planets edition by Stuart J Whitmore Aurora Peterson Children eBooks
A boy on Earth wants to visit Mars, while a boy from Mars comes to visit him, and lends him his spaceship. The end. The book is aimed at very early readers - with simple words and simple sentence structure. That's all fine. But for something like that to work, all of the pressure is on the illustrator, who has to carry that sense of desire and longing and excitement into the illustrations. Here, to my mind, the illustrations are serviceable but unexceptionable. There is nothing, for me, that is striking, or captivating, or exciting, or engaging about the pictures. So what you are left with is the simple bare story of the boy on the rock looking at the sky. That may just not be enough.

Two Boys Two Planets edition by Stuart J Whitmore Aurora Peterson Children eBooks Reviews
My son and I read this together and we both really liked it. Great story and artwork, we'll be reading this more than once!!
This is a short story with beautiful illustrations. It worked well on my Fire. It has been 3 year old approved!
This is a picture book with one or two simple sentences on each page. The illustrations are water color and very pretty. A boy on Earth and a boy on Mars both want to visit each others' planets. The books is well formatted with text that is easy to read. At the end of the book are space-related links which my son and I are now enjoying.
I read this with my 6 and 7 year old. The topic was cute and the illustrations were okay but the text was too simple and the story was incomplete. I would not recommend this book for children older than 5.
This was an interesting story geared toward early readers. The writing is done in an easy, simplistic yet intriguing style. The illustrations are wonderful and while they might appear simple or basic to some, to me that only helps in the mystery of the story.
What it all boils down to is the idea of travel to and from the planet Mars. Whether just a child’s dream or the not too distant future for mankind this book introduces the idea in a fun, non threatening or scary way.
It’s a story your child will enjoy and is different than most of the stories you find. Why not open their mind and see how far out it can go?
