The Wind and the Sea edition by Marsha Canham Romance eBooks
One of the handful of books I reread when I'm in the mood for a great romance.A young daughter of a notorious pirate is captured by an American navy ship while she's disguised as a boy. The Lieutenant decides to use him as a cabin boy, to keep his identity a secret. Direct kin of notorious pirates probably wouldn't fare well as hostages. The stakes get even higher when he finds out this ill-mannered little brat is actually a girl!
She is a spitfire, determined to use her amazing pirate skills to get revenge on our handsome Lieutenant. Too bad he's not in the mood to humor the ungrateful brat because he's actually undercover investigating a leak in the US Navy. That's right, the honorable Lieutenant is even more clever and powerful than we thought, but he can't reveal that yet.
So begins a story of secrets and traitors, Pirates and Captains, disguises and temptations, action, revenge, trust and deceit. It is a grand adventure, written to perfection. It has everything, yet nothing is extra. We have family drama, the French Revolution, a southern plantation, Irish tempers, stolen treasures, aristocrats, drunken sex, tender loving, a secret wedding, and more fighting and rescues than I remember.
But underneath all that, the love story that develops is one of the best I've ever read. There is a vulnerable lovely girl hiding deep behind the pirate urchin disguise and tough attitude. She never had a chance at a normal life due to her parentage and it's too late to change. Will the Captain even want her to change once he gets to know and appreciate her strong character and her mad skills with sharp objects?

The Wind and the Sea edition by Marsha Canham Romance eBooks Reviews
I just finished this book and "raced" to my kindle to order another Marsha Canham book.
I searched and looked at every book available and alas I have already read every one of them. Dang!
Five stars to all. She writes my kind of historical romance I guess.
I read this one till 3 am last night and finished it first thing this morning. I can NOT put her books down.
What a gifted writer. I love the Pirates. I am amazed at the knowledge she has about times and places. I think she could sail a galleon through a storm at sea as well as any of her sea faring heroes.
I LOVED these books.
I also loved the Robinhood books and all other historical stories. I have been doing ancestry research for years. I have some very interesting historical ancestors who show up in her books. I really enjoy that. I see a name and then I look for them on my tree. I read lots of facts and stories in the process. Marsha Canhams accuracy is amazing. I love reading about dusty old Grandpas like William Marshall even the really bad guys like Kings John and Edward actually were as awful as they say.
She has done her research and I respect her very much for that. No skipping corners for her.
She is one of my top 2 favorite authors.
Marsha Canham is one of my favorite authors. She writes stories so fun of adventure and excitement that I can't read more than two in a row or I would not have any fingernails left. THE WIND AND THE SEA absolutely kept me on the edge of my seat.
I'm also pleased to report that this book has not been SANITIZED. The hero is not politically correct. He is rough. He is not a 2013 man, to put it mildly. His country is at war and he acts accordingly, in a manner authentic to the time period. I really hate when books are set in the past, yet are full of characters that behave too civilized for their times. Don't worry, though, the heroine gives it right back to him. They are, in fact, cut from the same mold.
American sailor Lt. Adrian Ballentine is a man looked up to and revered by all those on his ship. He is the one they turn to in uncertain times and when faced with impossible odds. True to what we expect from our heroes, he lives up to the title. There is no one else that the Commodore would trust to uncover a traitor selling navy secrets to a deadly band of pirates.
The daughter of the enemy, Courney Farrow has grown up weilding pistols and cutlasses and determined to fight to the very end. Learning her father was killed by the Americans, Courtney vows revenge against every last one of them, including the fair-haired lieutennant. She hates him. But yet...
Both have been betrayed. Will they work together to catch the traitors on both sides? Or will they continue to fight each other....until one of them is dead.
I never figured out who the traitors were until the last minute. It kept me guessing until the very end. And the love scenes? Phew. Fogged my glasses.
I give it 5 stars.....but it is worth so many more.
